Will of Pride Jones - 1 Jan 1889 Original Will, on file in Raleigh, NC Archives CR 073.801 In the name of God Amen I Pride Jones of Orange County and State of North Carolina do make publish and declare this to be my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills or parts of wills I give to my wife Martha Ann Jones all my property of whatsoever kind and description she has certain right with rigard to real estate and personal property which Major Graham will explain to her I bid in the Mill property as agent of my son Pride. I wish him to turn over that property to Mr. H. Hughes, Jas A. Cheek, D. M. Laws and Mrs Sallie R. Collins to save them from loss by reason of their being my securities Witness my hand this Jany 1 1889 Pride Jones I appoint my wife Martha Ann Jones the executrix of this my last will & testament Jany 1 1889 Pride Jones North Carolina } Superior Court Orange County } April 23rd 1889 On the 23rd day of April 1889, before S. M. Gattis Clerk of the Superior Court of Orange County, the following paper writing is produced in open Court purporting to be the last will and testament of Pride Jones, late of the County of Orange, ["purporting" crossed out] bearing date January 1st 1889, and motion is made to receive proof of the said paper writing, as the last will and testament of said Pride Jones; and to support the said application the following witnesses are produced; John W. Graham, Allen J. Ruffin, D. H. Hamilton, and D. C. Parks, who being duly sworn in open Court, testify respectively as follows, that they are each of them well acquainted with the handwriting of said Pride Jones, having often seen him write and acknowledge his signature to paper writings, and that they do know his handwriting and they do further say that the said Pride Jones departed this life [page 2] on the 6th day of April 1889, and that on the 1st day of January 1889 the said Pride Jones had sufficient capacity to execute a will, and that the said paper writing and very part thereof is in the handwriting of said Pride Jones de- ceased; and the said Allen J. Ruffin and John W. Graham do say that the said paper writing now produced was found among the valuable papers & effects of said Pride Jones, in a small box in which was contained deeds receipts and notes plus tax receipts and other memoranda of business transactions, John W.
