Will of William Crabtree, Jr - 31 May 1868 Original Will, on file in Raleigh, NC Archives CR 073.801 I William Crabtree of the County of Orange and State of North Carolina Being of sound mind and memory but considering the unsirtnecy of my life do make this my last will and testament in manner and form as follows that is to say I give unto my wife Elisabeth all of my lands & tenaments and all of household & kitchen furniture of every description and stock of cattle hogs and sheep and one Black mare during her life or widowhood and at her deth or marage I want my grand son William Edmon Crabtree to have the home track and Twenty five acres off of the North of the tract noin as the Jones Land an I all so give to my grand son William Edmon Crabtree and Ballance of my land sold and devided Equaly between Westly P. Crabtree & my doughter Margaret Workman. It is my will & desir for my wife to dispose of the stock & house-hold property as she may think proper I all so will to my doughter Julia Davies & my sons John & James & William F. Crabtree Twenty five cents each It is my will if the Clay Bank man die, I want to buy another one in plas in place for out of the Lands that is to be sold & davided be givane Westly & Mordak Workman. It is my desir that my friend Charles C. Note: The background of this will is very dark, due to yellowing of the original, making this especially hard to read in black and white. The line about the "Clay Bank Man" seems weird, but that's what it looked like to me. A good color digital copy would be a idea to obtain a clearer copy. Images include "Administrator's Oath" form signed 31 May 1871 and "Application for Letters of Administration" form, signed the same day, stating the the estate is worth about $300, assigning Stephen Dickson to be the adminstrator, because no Executor was named in the will.
